Nigeria has one of the worst school attendance rates in the world, with approximately 10.5 million children out of school. Not surprisingly, national literacy rates are low, with 60% of 11 year olds unable to read at all.
Radio Schools was formally established in February 2021, with the ambition to help transform basic education for children in Nigeria.
This project targets underprivileged communities in rural, remote areas of Nigeria’s northwest region, where most children have never been exposed to any form of formal education.
A bespoke curriculum, delivering education programmes via remote, radio-delivered schooling, is being developed. Working with local facilitators, education specialists and community elders, the whole community is engaged to understand the lifelong value of education.
Why we love them:
Radio School reaches "unreachable" children with captivating broadcasts, brings them together around radios for learning and engages with their whole community to ensure every child benefits from motivational support.
